Queensland’s State General Election is on 26 October 2024.
The next state general election will be held on Saturday 26 October 2024. The election period will begin when Her Excellency the Governor of Queensland issues the writ for the election.
The election dates below are determined by legislation. The writ will specify additional dates such as the close of candidate nominations.
- Issue of writ – Tuesday 1 October 2024
- Candidate nominations open – Wednesday 2 October 2024
- Early voting period – Monday 14 October to Friday 25 October 2024 from 8am-6pm (excluding the weekend)
- Postal vote applications close – Monday 14 October 2024 at 7pm
- Election day – Saturday 26 October 2024 from 8am-6pm
- Postal vote return deadline – Tuesday 5 November 2024
The full election timetable will be published once the writ is issued.
Postal Votes
You can apply now for a postal vote at www.ecq.qld.gov.au until 7pm AEST Monday 14 October 2024.
After you apply, your voting materials will be mailed to you once the candidates are known.
You must complete your vote, sign the declaration on the envelope and have it witnessed by an adult by 6pm on Saturday 26 October.
Residents in the Bancroft Electorate: Postal votes are being sent out to all residents and should be in letterboxes mid-late September. In the event that you have not received a postal vote application by the first week of October, please contact the Bancroft Electorate Office.
Paper Application Form
Application forms can also be downloaded from the ECQ website www.ecq.qld.gov.au from mid September 2024.
Once complete, the application forms can be submitted by:
- scanning and emailing to [email protected]
- faxing to (07) 3036 5778
- post to GPO Box 1393, Brisbane QLD 4001
- in person to ECQ or the Returning Officer’s office.
Early Voting
Early voting starts on 14 October. This may be an option for electors who will be interstate or overseas and not leaving until after that date. Early polling booth locations will be posted on the ECQ website once the information is released.

- Telephone registration and telephone voting is open from 14 October 2024 Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm.
- Telephone registration closes on Saturday 26 October 2024 at 12pm (midday).
- Telephone voting closes on Saturday 26 October 2024 at 6pm.
