Queensland’s unprecedented heatwave and bushfire emergency has now entered its second week.
I am calling on locals to come together and show their generosity by donating to help those in communities affected by the bushfires.
The impact of these fires is heartbreaking, with massive parts of our state blackened and burnt, with properties reduced to ruin.
With many thousands of families have been affected, in these weeks just before Christmas, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has launched the drive to provide a helping hand.
Numerous charities including GIVIT, the Red Cross, the Salvos, UnitingCare and Vinnies have answered the call. They have all committed to ensuring that every dollar goes where it is needed.
As it is not safe for volunteers to enter the disaster zone to help out, the best thing to do to help at the moment is to donate money.
Money has the double benefit of being able to get where it is needed easily, and also to support local businesses.
I would also like to pay tribute to our hardworking emergency service workers and volunteers who have bravely been at the frontline of this battle for days and days.
During this festive season I encourage everyone to dig deep and help out our fellow Queenslanders.
