North Lakes Rugby League Gets Boost from $150K Grant

Rugby league in North Lakes will get a huge boost from a field upgrade at Aurora Boulevard to be funded by the State Government.

The North Lakes District Senior Rugby League will get $150,000 from the “Get Playing Places and Spaces” sports grant program to upgrade the existing field at Aurora Boulevard to make it a greener and softer playing surface.

North Lakes sports clubs are very healthy and vibrant with huge numbers of locals joining and playing.

They are so successful that there is now great pressure on local sports fields.

We have to work hard to make sure they use every possible playing surface.

My job is to maximise access to grants programs for all out local sports clubs.

I am so pleased to see the North Lakes Kangaroos are using the Palaszczuk Government’s grants to improve their playing spaces.

Aurora Boulevard at the moment is a very hard field and it can potentially cause injury.

With this grant, the Kangaroos and Council can close the field for 12 months to fully rejuvenate it after the 2019 rugby league season.

“The Kangaroos also use the Kinsellas Sporting Complex fields, but we share them with 2 other soccer clubs and they are very crowded,” said club president Nikki Clarken.

“The lack of field availability in North Lakes makes it very difficult for our club to grow.

“Next year we are looking at potentially 20 junior teams or more and at least five senior teams.

“We could take more if we can get more good field space as we are doing really well and we are a popular club,” said Nikki.
