A re-elected Palaszczuk Government will declare a Priority Development Area at North Harbour in Burpengary East to help facilitate more than $1 billion of construction and create thousands of jobs.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the development would help stimulate the Queensland economy and drive recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I have made it clear I do not want to see red tape get in the way of job creation in this state,” the Premier said.
“The declaration of a PDA at Burpengary East will enable the proposal to be assessed under the Planning Act 2016.
“This site sits outside the ShapingSEQ urban footprint. The Priority Development Area mechanism is designed to unlock ‘out of the box’ projects like this that have the potential to create significant economic and community benefits.”
Member for Bancroft Chris Whiting said Moreton Bay Regional Council had written to the government proposing a PDA to facilitate the North Harbour development.
“I want to see the North Harbour development go ahead in my community and the PDA declaration will create a pathway forward,” Mr Whiting said.
“If it stacks up, the $1.2 billion expansion of North Harbour will deliver a 2,000 dwelling canal estate, 400 berth marina, recreational space and environmental area.
“It also has great potential to stimulate our local boating industry and will support 7,000 jobs during construction,” said Chris Whiting
