Works are nearly complete on a $1 million upgrade to sporting facilities at the North Lakes State College, said Chris Whiting MP
The school was awarded a $1 million grant under the Palaszczuk Government’s Active Community Infrastructure (Community Use of Schools) program to create sporting facilities that can be shared by community sports clubs.
“North Lakes State College is an outstanding local school and they have done a marvelous job in getting this unique project nearly finished,” said Chris Whiting MP.
“The beauty about this facilities upgrade is that all of the local community will benefit as they can be used by a many people from a range of local sporting clubs.
“The whole project was done as a partnership with the North Lakes Sports club, North Lakes State College, North Lakes Mustangs and The Lakes FC and the Department of Sport.
“Effectively, these fields form part of the broader Kinsellas Road sporting precinct which is used by up to 1,800 football players over a football season.
“The upgrade includes the installation of brand new turf across the oval, the installation of LED lighting in the towers, seating, and a new amenities block.
“The internal fit out of the amenities block is still underway.
“It has change rooms, toilets, storage space, and a canteen that has benefited from an extra $70,000 contributed by the NLSC P&C.
“The lighting, oval and seating are complete. The lights are now energy efficient LED lights that will have a longer life than the previous bulbs, and the seating is a series of sandstone terraces.
“This a unique project, one of only two like this in state schools across Queensland and will help students get even better opportunities to pursue their sporting dreams.
“It is going to create sporting facilities that will confirm North Lakes as a centre of community sporting activity across the region,” said Chris Whiting MP.
