Chris Whiting MP has applauded a new Palaszczuk Government program that invites private and commercial
property owners to bring new rental options to market.
The Help to Home initiative will aim to unlock 1,000 homes by partnering with the owners of those
properties through a 2-year head leasing arrangement.
“Every day as a local MP, my staff and I are working to get vulnerable and homeless Queenslanders into
homes,” said Chris Whiting MP.
“I am so pleased to see this new program because it is another way to open up more homes for
Queenslanders.
“We know there are a lot of vacant properties out there, and we want to get them back onto the rental
market.
“The new $40 million Help to Home initiative is designed to encourage investors sitting on vacant properties
to sign up to a head lease with the Queensland Government.
“Rental home owners get a guaranteed rental income for two years, paid three months in advance, and then
every quarter subject to the terms of the lease.
“We have secured the first 18 properties in Beenleigh under this program and I want to see more opening up
here in our community,” said Chris Whiting.
Expressions of Interest (EOIs) under this initiative are open until 31 October.
“Help To Home will help people on our social housing register to secure safe and affordable housing and will
target areas of high demand,” said Chris Whiting.
“Social housing tenants who are allocated Help to Home properties will pay the same income-based,
affordable rent as they would in other types of social housing.
“Help to Home is a win-win for tenants and property owners,” said Chris Whiting.
Applications from property owners will be considered on merit and evaluated in the order they are received.
