Cost of living is really hurting local families which isn't helped by the fact that Queenslanders pay more for fuel than anywhere else in Australia.
That's why in Queensland Parliament's first sitting week for 2026, Labor introduced a Bill to cap excessive fuel increases in Queensland.
Under Labor's plan, fuel stations would be limited to increasing prices by no more than 5 cents per day - helping to reduce sudden price jumps that hit household budgets.
Fuel stations must also advise customers by 2pm the previous day so you can shop around for the cheapest price before you get to the pump.
The RACQ have called for this regulation, saying the current system isn’t working in the interest of drivers.
A cap on fuel hikes is working in other states, so it's time for Queensland to get on board to make transport more affordable.
We're also calling (again) for our 50c fares cost-saving initiative to be locked in.
In 2024 the Labor team introduced a 50c flat fare across buses, trains, light rail and ferries in Queensland - no matter where you live.
Queenslanders took 15 million trips in just the first month, putting thousands of dollars back into the pockets of local families. But the LNP could pull support for 50 cent fares at any time, with no consultation.
While we've pressured the government to keep 50c fares for now, the last time we tried to add it to legislation the LNP blocked it.
We need to send a clear message to the LNP to support Labor's transport affordability legislation.
If fairer fuel prices and permanent 50 cent fares makes sense to you, sign my petition.
