Many people have asked “why aren’t we doing any programs that break the cycle of offending for some young people?”. 

My answer is “we are doing them, they are working, but you just haven’t heard about them.”  So here is information about two programs that are making a difference.

YAMBI.  This is a local program (Youth access Moreton Bay) run by Younity in Deception Bay. It is crisis support program for young people who may be homeless, left school or are under court orders. It provides ‘wrap around’ support services and bursary funds to help them address their issues and ultimately get a job.

Project Booyah.  This program runs throughout Queensland and includes a 16-week mentoring program.  It is a partnership between the Queensland Police Service, the PCYC and others.  It involves adventure-based learning, teaching leadership skills, as well as social and skill development training.  It also includes community intervention and literacy or numeracy support.  Project Booyah also offers vocational scholarships.
