Chris Whiting MP has welcomed the announcement of the North Harbour PDA, describing it as the result of years of work he has championed—but says the LNP Government must now focus on delivering the critical infrastructure North Harbour needs, not just re-announcing old plans.
“I’ve supported North Harbour’s growth and the marina project from the very beginning,” Mr Whiting said.
“I was one of only two councillors to vote for the original development back in 2009, and since then I’ve successfully lobbied to have North Harbour included in the Urban Footprint and secured a commitment from the former government to declare a PDA.
“These were crucial steps in unlocking North Harbour’s potential and paving the way for growth.”
Mr Whiting noted that both Labor and the LNP committed to the PDA but warned that simply declaring it won’t fast-track development if key challenges remain unresolved.
“Declaring a PDA is only part of the story. Without real commitments to deliver public transport, schools, and upgraded roads, local families won’t see the benefits they’ve been promised,” he said.
He urged the Government to act on his long-standing calls for bus services to North Harbour and commit to building the long-awaited primary school.
“I secured the land for the school, and now we need the Education Minister to get on with delivering it,” he said.
“We also need urgent action on the Bruce Highway upgrade and the Uhlmann Road and Buchanan Road overpasses.”
Mr Whiting encouraged residents to add their voices by signing his petition calling for better bus services to North Harbour.
“I’ve been campaigning for public transport for North Harbour because families need it now, not years down the track,” he said.
“I encourage everyone to sign my petition to show the Government how important this is.”
He also stressed that flood risk, native title, and environmental approvals remain major hurdles.
“The Government needs to be upfront with the community that, even with a PDA in place, the marina still requires Federal environmental approvals before it can proceed,” he said.
“These are critical issues that must be properly resolved.
“I’ll keep fighting to make sure local families in North Harbour get the infrastructure and services they deserve—not just more announcements.”
