There is a great new opportunity for local people from a variety of cultural backgrounds to be trained to work as interpreters, said Chris Whiting MP.

The Palaszczuk Government will provide scholarships for up to 120 people under the Interpreter Training Boost (ITB) program to undertake certification as an Interpreter in priority languages.

“We need interpreters in some key languages such as Samoan, Tongan, Vietnamese and Thai to help everyone access the Queensland Government services they need,” said Chris Whiting MP.

“So if you are a skilled and fluent speaker of one of the many languages spoken across our community, this could be a great job training opportunity for you.

“We are fortunate that our communities have many people from a variety of cultural backgrounds, and I hear many different languages spoken across our region.

“This offer to train interpreters to certification level opens up a great chance to move into a new career, and a chance for someone to help out their multicultural community.

“We are committed to implement our Queensland Language Services Policy and improve access to interpreters and multilingual resources for Queenslanders,” said Chris Whiting MP.
