New Hydrogen Industry Needs Queensland Workers

New Hydrogen Industry Needs Queensland Workers Main Image

20 July 2022

Chris Whiting MP is appealing to local students and workers to get ready to join the
Queensland hydrogen industry with a new range of training opportunities for the industry.

The Palaszczuk Government’s Gateway to Industry Skills Program will add hydrogen as a new
industry allowing 30 schools and up to 2000 students to get an introduction into this emerging
industry.

“I want local students and workers to think about new opportunities as we fast-track the
development of Queensland’s hydrogen industry,” said Chris Whiting MP.

“We’re getting Queenslanders ready to join our high-skilled hydrogen industry workforce by
opening a range of training opportunities for students and workers.

“$50 million will be invested into the state-of-the-art infrastructure to support training in
renewables and hydrogen.

“TAFE Queensland will use Virtual Reality to deliver course content which will allow hydrogen
training facilities to be used by more students and workers.

“As part of a $15 million VET emerging industries initiative, the Palaszczuk Government is
working with industry on future safety and hazards training for workers in the hydrogen
workforce.

“We’re fast-tracking the development of the hydrogen industry because Queensland has a
unique opportunity to be at the forefront of renewable hydrogen production.

“We are going to be the global supplier of choice for green hydrogen.

“And I want our local students and workers to be the first in line to take up the opportunities
that are emerging as we develop this industry,” said Chris Whiting MP.

Queensland is the first state in the country to develop a Hydrogen Industry Workforce
Development Roadmap and has an ambitious target of 50 percent renewable energy by 2030.
