Home Buy-Back Program Expanded Locally

Home Buy-Back Program Expanded Locally Main Image

More local flood-prone properties will be bought through the Palaszczuk Government’s nation-leading housing buy-back program, said Chris Whiting MP.

Another 10 properties in the Bancroft electorate will be acquired and demolished under the Resilient Homes Fund, in addition to the 17 properties already identified for acquisition.

“This means more local families who have endured flood after flood coming through their homes can now get on with their lives,” said Chris Whiting MP.

“They will not need to have to move all their belongings at a moment’s notice every time we get a downpour.

Home owner in Deception Bay participates in Queensland buy-back program“Talking to residents of McGahey St and Major St, I know they have been living stressful lives each time we approach the rainy season.

“I want to thank the Palaszczuk Government and the Albanese Government for jointly funding the Resilient Homes Fund and now reallocating money from the retrofit part of the program over to the buy-back part.

“A crucial step in establishing this program was having the Deputy Premier Steven Miles visit Major St in Deception Bay to see the devastation in last year’s floods.

“I know it was the resilience and determination of Deception Bay residents that helped convince all levels of government to initiate this life-altering buy-back program,” said Chris Whiting MP.

• 300 more homes across Queensland have been identified for buy-back under the Resilient Homes Fund, making a total of more than 800.
• 473 offers have been presented to homeowners.
• 370 offers have been accepted.
• 238 homes have already been acquired.
• Demolition of acquired properties has already commenced in Major St with the land being converted to parkland.
• Applications for the voluntary home buy-back scheme have closed.
• Impacted homeowners can still apply for a Resilient Retrofit or a Home Raising program payment.
