Personal Hardship Assistance from the Australian and Queensland Governments has been activated for residents in south-east Queensland council areas in response to Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Queensland support
In the wake of the storm, eligible residents in Moreton Bay can apply for a range of grants to support recovery from Alfred’s impacts.
This support includes:
Emergency Hardship Assistance of $180 for individuals, up to $900 for a family of five or more to cover essentials like food, clothing and medicine.
Essential Services Hardship Assistance - residents who have suffered the loss of essential services at their home for more than five consecutive days can access $150 per person, up to $750 for a family of five or more.
Essential Household Contents Grants - up to $1,765 for individuals and up to $5,300 for couples or families can be used to replace destroyed household items like whitegoods and bed linen.
Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Scheme - help with safety inspections and repairs to reconnect essential services, e.g. gas, water, electricity and sewage.
Structural Assistance Grants - up to $80,000 for the repair of a disaster damaged dwelling, and support up to $5,000 for the reconnection of power, gas, water and sewerage.

Community Recovery Hubs
Community Recovery Hubs have opened up across SEQ to help residents with accessing grants and obtaining emotional and wellbeing support.
The following Hubs are open across the Moreton Bay region:

9am to 4pm daily from Thursday 13 March


Federal support
The federal Disaster Recovery Allowance is available if you’ve lost income as a direct result of Queensland Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
This is a short-term payment for up to 13 weeks paid from the date you started losing income as a direct result of this disaster and can be claimed through myGov online.
You can submit a claim until 8 September 2025.

Update - 17 March 2025
The Australian Government Disaster Payment (AGDRP) is a lump sum payment to help people affected by Queensland Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
From today residents of Moreton Bay are eligible to apply, as well as the other LGAs listed. You have until 13 September 2025 to make a claim.
AGDRP is not for minor damage or inconvenience. Its purpose is to help you with immediate costs if one or more of the following apply:
- the disaster caused major damage to your home or a major asset or assets that you own at your home
- you were seriously injured
- you’re the immediate family member of an Australian citizen or resident who died or is missing.
