About Chris Whiting
Chris has represented the communities of North Lakes, Deception Bay, Burpengary East, Mango Hill and Rothwell in Queensland Parliament since 2015, first as the Member for Murrumba and then as the first-ever member for Bancroft.
As the local MP, Chris is renowned for being practical, straightforward and accessible. He has been a champion for the local people and helped deliver many local community building initiatives such as:
- a state-leading local program of Skilling Queenslanders for Work projects
- $80 million in Deception Bay Road improvements from Anzac Avenue to the Bruce Highway
- the housing buy-back scheme for flood-affected properties
- state-of-the-art new school infrastructure including the Bounty Boulevard State School Hall, the Endeavour building at North Lakes State College and a brand new multi-purpose hall for Deception Bay State School.
Chris also represented Burpengary, Beachmere and Deception Bay for 12 years as a local councillor on the Caboolture Shire Council and Moreton Bay Regional Council, and instigated the revitalisation of the Deception Bay foreshore.
Chris is currently the Chair of the Housing, Big Build and Manufacturing Committee where he leads the examination of bills and legislation relating to the housing, infrastructure, racing and manufacturing portfolio areas. Chris has also served as Chief Government Whip and acting Deputy Speaker.
Chris lives with his wife, Sian, and three children - Guy, Rebecca and Arabella - in Burpengary East. He also plays hockey, and would like to do more road cycling and surfing if he had the time.
Chris graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a Master of Journalism, and has been awarded a Graduate Diploma of Property from Deakin University.
