Local taxi companies can now apply for grants under the second round of Wheelchair Accessible Taxi Grants Program said Chris Whiting MP.
Taxi operators can apply for up to $45 000 to purchase and modify a new wheelchair accessible taxi under this $21 million grants program.
“l accessible taxi services are often the only means of transport for some people with disability and their families,” said Chris Whiting MP.
“With accessible taxis, everyone can get to appointments, go shopping and make the every day trips most of us take for granted.
“The grants help replace written-off vehicles and aging taxis, and provide funding for existing conventional taxi licence operators to replace their vehicles with wheelchair accessible taxis.
“Successful applicants will receive 50 per cent funding for the cost to purchase and modify a new wheelchair accessible taxi, up to a maximum grant of $45,000,” said Chris Whiting.
