$14.5 million in sport and recreation funding now available
Queensland sport and recreation clubs are urged to apply for funding of the Queensland Government’s popular Get Going Clubs and Get Playing Places and Spaces programs.
Treasurer and Minister for Sport, Curtis Pitt said a combined $14.5 million in funding was available to local sport and recreation organisations through these programs.
“To date we have seen some incredibly worthwhile projects come to fruition with the help of funding from these programs,” Mr Pitt said.
“Through Get Going Clubs, hundreds of clubs throughout the state have received funding for projects that drive participation. This has included new equipment purchases, refereeing courses, coach accreditation, ‘come and try’ sessions, introductory skill development programs and many more.
“Approved projects under Get Playing Places and Spaces have involved upgrades to club infrastructure including installation of lighting, shades or irrigation, construction of amenities and many other types of facility improvements.
“Recent changes to each program’s guidelines will make Round 5 funding more accessible to eligible organisations.
“For Get Going Clubs the changes mean funding can be sought across the three program areas—education and training, participation and equipment.
“In Get Playing Places and Spaces, additional supporting infrastructure that can ensure that people can participate, have been added as eligible projects.
“We’re proud to be able to provide more opportunities for Queenslanders to participate in sport and active recreation at the grassroots level—to get more people outdoors, staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” Mr Pitt said.
Get Going Clubs and Get Playing Places and Spaces are two of four funding programs that make up the Get in the Game initiative, now over $100 million in this government’s investment to support grassroots sport and recreation.
Get Going Clubs provides funding of up to $7,500 to help clubs provide participation opportunities in the community.
Get Playing Places and Spaces provides grants of up to $100,000 for new or upgraded sport and recreation infrastructure projects so that more Queenslanders can be involved in sport and active recreation.
